Lucite is a brand name for Acrylic. Other brand names for Acrylic include Plexiglas and Polycast. Over the years the words Acrylic and Lucite have become synonyms.

» WHAT IS ACRYLIC?

Acrylic was first introduced by the Rohm and Haas Company in 1933 (Plexiglas).
While it looks like glass, it is stronger and about half the weight. Acrylic is also crystal clear. Acrylic sheets can be cut, beveled, polished, and even formed in ovens to make from beautiful Acrylic Awards to stunning Acrylic furniture. Acrylic sheets can also be cut for windows, airplane windshields, cubes and Acrylic works of art such as Sculptures.

» CARE AND CLEANING OF ACRYLIC/LUCITE PRODUCTS

Special care must be taken when cleaning acrylic products. You should avoid household cleaners like Windex, 409, and Fantastik. The chemicals in these products can dull and craze the Acrylic. The best way to care for your Acrylic products, whether it be Acrylic furniture or Acrylic awards, is to clean with warm water and a small amount of liquid soap such as Ivory, rinse and dry. Always use a soft cloth as not to scratch the Acrylic surface.

» WHAT CAN I DO IF MY ACRYLIC PRODUCT SCRATCHES?

Items made out of Acrylic can sometimes scratch. Small or fine scratches can easily be removed by using products like Novus 2. For deeper scratches you might need to sand and/or polished them out with a buffing wheel. You can buy buffing and scratch removal kits from a company, like Craftics.
